Bluegrass in the Barn: January Edition

Our monthly Bluegrass in the Barn concert will take place TOMORROW, Saturday the 16th! A great way to shake off the winter blues and get moving to some of the best bluegrass around.

We host our winter concerts downstairs in the barn, which is a smaller space, but much cozier and warmer for the winter months. Since it is a smaller space, be sure to get your seat when the doors open at 7:00pm!

Music will start at 7:30pm with Headwaters, a new band of pickers led by Keith Dill (a familiar face to the Bluegrass in the Barn regulars)

Bud’s Collective will take to the stage around 8:30pm, and play til the cows come home….or, until 11:30 or so…

$10 cover; we’ll have our famous brisket for sale, as well as other food and drinks. Come hungry!

December 2015 Bluegrass in the Barn

Join us this Saturday (which is supposed to be WARM!) downstairs in our barn for Bluegrass in the Barn! This will mark our THIRD anniversary of Bluegrass in the Barn, which is hard to believe. Thanks so much for all of your continued support; some of you have been coming since the beginning, and we meet new folks every month. Because you all make it out each month, we’re able to keep on going.

Show starts at 7:30pm with Low Water Bridge of Front Royal, VA.
Bud’s Collective will take the stage at 8:30ish and play songs off of their new Christmas album, “Naughty List,” along with all your other favorites.

Cover for the night of music is $10 at the door; come hungry! We’ll be serving our famous brisket sandwiches and lots of other goodies.

We’ll have plenty of seating available, but you are always welcome to see if your chair will fit in. Remember, since it is winter, we have our concerts downstairs and it could get cramped. If you want to be sure you get a seat, try to get there when the doors open at 7!

The last of the chickens!

We just processed the last batch of pastured chickens here at Capon Crossing Farm, so what we currently have in stock will be it until next Spring.
They are already selling like hotcakes, so make sure you stop by soon to pick up yours. $3.99/lb, an unbeatable price for pastured heritage breed chicken!

Our whole chickens can provide several meals to a family, especially if you make chicken stock, which is easy!

Chicken Stock:
Place chicken carcass in a pot, cover with water, bring to boil, then let simmer 4-24 hours (the longer, the better).
OR, place carcass in crockpot, cover with water, and cook on low 4-24 hours.

Some optional tips:
-Add a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar
-Flavor with salt and pepper, or other mild spices
-Add garlic cloves, onions, and/or fresh herbs
-Drink broth plain (especially if you are fighting a cold!), or add to any soup or stew.

Enjoy!
